Internet Essay
Within the past decade, there is one thing that has managed to take over the world. THE INTERNET! Ever since the Internet became extremely popular around 1995, it has never died down and is still continuing world dominance. With the Internet, you have and unfathomable amount of information at your fingertips within seconds. The Internet makes communication and daily tasks easier and the Internet provides the world with an organized database of almost everything! The popularity of the Internet makes our lives easier and easier every day.
On the Internet, you can find entire libraries of information. No longer do we have to rely on libraries as our main source of information. Although there is false information on the Internet, you can usually distinguish it right away just from the source. The Internet is an excellent tool to utilize for research. There are many reference websites with information about any topic imaginable. With this abundance of information, the Internet could definitely be used for education purposes. Fast-paced learning is available without having to go to a “traditional” classroom with a teacher physically there. With some school systems, you are even able to view your whole academic record on the Internet. Information is a priority, and the Internet has managed to make it easily accessible.
Communication isn’t, and will never be, what it used to be. 30 years ago, there was no such thing as instant messaging, forums, or chat rooms. You couldn’t see people halfway across the world on a screen as you talked to them in the comfort of your own home. The Internet has made all of this possible. Communication is the most popular use of the Internet. Through email, you can send messages in seconds, compared to writing a letter on paper, putting it in a stamped envelope, and sending it. Friends are able to communicate from distances far and wide by using a chat room, or even an instant messaging service, such as AIM. There are social websites where you can meet new people and even dating websites where people meet and establish marriages over the Internet. Communication over the Internet has also improved our economy. The government can use the Internet to improve on homeland security issues and help make their services more easily accessible. Businesses can communicate with their partners and customers over the internet also, from shopping online, to being able to fulfill a business request with the click of a button or the strike of a key.
The Internet presents the people of the world with an organized database of almost anything. Before the Internet, there was so much information, in so many places, that it was almost impossible to find and track certain things. Now, people are able to go to one place, the Internet, from there to a search engine such as Google or Yahoo! and look for anything that their hearts desire, from people, to records…anything! This positive aspect of the Internet is also a way to preserve history. The Internet is constantly being updated every second. There is no way that could be possible with books.
In conclusion, the Internet provides more resources than one could ever imagine. It presents an abundance of information right at our fingertips, allows us to communicate in unprecedented forms, and made things more organized. Now that we have the Internet, what would we ever do without it?
