Comparison of Akeelah and the Bee to Basic CPU Functions
Akeelah and the Bee was a movie that was not only intellectually stimulating, but also humorous and heartwarming at the same time. The movie relates to programming as Akeelah uses basic CPU functions to prepare for the bee. The vocabulary used in the movie was also intellectually stimulating because of the way that the audience was being taught something new, yet entertained at the same time. Also, the story of Akeelah and the Bee was a very touching beating-the-odds story in addition to the witty humor.
The methods of memorization that Akeelah uses to prepare for the bee in the movie are very similar, if not identical to the basic CPU operations. She used arithmetic to break down larger, more complex words into prefixes, suffixes, and roots. She also used logic at the competition when asking judges for the various clues to help them figure out the spelling of the word, such as asking the origin, or for it to be used in a sentence. Most importantly, Akeelah perfected the practice of rearranging patterns in memory by using mnemonic devices to remember the spellings of words by keeping pace.
The vocabulary used in the movie was very intellectually stimulating. Normally, a spelling bee would seem like a very boring event, but this movie was able to capture the excitement and anticipation within a spelling bee to keep the audience interested. Also, being not just an average viewer, but a viewer with a liking for grammar and languages, I enjoyed the use of language and techniques probably much more than anyone else would have.
Lastly, Akeelah and the Bee is demonstrates a stuggling, beating the odds story. Being from a poor, inner-city school, Akeelah was an unlikely candidate for the Scripps National Spelling Bee, or any other honorable academic competition. Occasionally, she had a difficult time adjusting to everyone else, but in the end, she was able to rise above all of the negativity in surrounding and win the bee.
In conclusion, Akeelah in the Bee was a movie that can be enjoyed from many perspectives. Whether being just the causal viewer, someone just like Akeelah, or the most experienced linguist, anyone can enjoy the movie. In the movie, Akeelah learns how to memorize words by using basic CPU functions. Because of the touching story, most people will leave the movie with the ability that they too can win the Scripps National Spelling Bee, just like Akeelah.
